Darn Thing Tried to Kill Me.....Again!

March 25, 2013

Well, so much for New Year's Resolutions.  Here it is the end of March (and incidentally today is my oldest daughter's birthday) and I can't even tell you the last time I got on the treadmill.  Actually, yes I can.  It was today, ha, ha, ha!!!  DUH!  That's the whole reason for this blog!  LOL!  Anyway, so much for resolutions.  I feel really crappy for not sticking with my New Year's Resolution.  I've gained weight instead of losing it.  I've got no energy and I sleep all the time.  Well, that's gotta change and today was the day we started.

I have the house to myself so after I dragged myself out of the bed - have I mentioned that my bed is the most comfortable place in the whole world?  No?  Well, my bed is the most comfortable place in the world!  No wonder I want to sleep so much!  Anyway, I dragged myself out of bed and while I was in the bathroom I decided that I would start today to get back in shape.  A month ago I was talking to an old friend who wants me to come visit her in North Carolina.  She said a friend of hers has been after her to run a 5k.  She and I got to talking and we decided that we would run one together.  We decided on the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and we were going to run it in North Carolina.  She wants me to come visit her so she can have a Paparazzi party.  Paparazzi is a brand of $5 jewelry that I sell.  You can check it out at www.paparazzibykarley.weebly.com if you want to see what it's all about.  It's affordable quality jewelry, really cute stuff, go see for yourself.  And I've digressed again....so my friend wants to have a party so we agreed I'd come visit her and we'd have a party and run a race all in the same weekend.  I also am running the same race in two other places.  I will only fund raise for one.  So, the first race was supposed to be May 4th in North Carolina but my kids have state solo contest on that day so I have to cancel that one and we have to find another one to run together.  Nevertheless, I decided it was time to get back in shape.

So, I got my stuff together and headed to the living room to face my Nemesis.  I started out at 5.0 MPH because this is my regular running rate.  After the first few steps I was grinning.  I LOVE running.  How could I ever stop this?  Why do I continue to do this to myself?  I know I LOVE to run so why do I stop?  UGH!!!  But, this was hard.  I had to stop after 1/2 mile and catch my breath.  I did some stretching and rested then started up again.  I had to stop again after another 1/2 mile but I kept my rate at 5 MPH.  I ran a little over 1.5 miles for a total of 20 minutes.  I spent the rest of my time on the treadmill walking and working my arms a little.  I'm a little disturbed at the flabbiness of my triceps.  It's rather disgusting and I need to tighten up.  I plan to add an aerobic workout with weights to my routine since this is about getting back in shape.  I used to be in very good shape when I was 22.  When I had my first child, I was able to get back in size 4 jeans the day I went home from the hospital.  That's right....be jealous.  Now, I don't know if I'll ever see a size 4 again, but I'm hoping that one day I might and I know being in my forties, it might not be an attainable goal but I think it is so secretly it's what I'm working toward and I plan to achieve it.  Watch me go and when I achieve it I will post a picture of myself in size 4 jeans.  Yes, yes, I will!

Anyway....so this one is self explanatory.  1.638 miles @ 5 MPH and another .6333 miles at 3.8 MPH.  It took 30 minutes total (which is why the numbers are odd, today I went for time not distance) with me running @ 5 MPH for 20 minutes and walking @ 3.8 for 10 minutes for a total of 30 minutes.  I don't know my pace because I messed my treadmill up when I was resting.  I accidentally leaned my head against the buttons and set my treadmill for the 10,000 steps program so I had to take the little magnet thing off which resets the treadmill.  So, I don't know my pace.....I do know that running at 5 MPH has a pace of 12:00 and walking at 3.8 has a pace of 15:47.  I'm too tired to think about the math to figure out overall pace and my running site didn't do it for me for some reason.  Uber sadness.....oh well....I can live without my pace for today.  Okay, so I lied, I cannot.  I just now searched the net and found a pace calculator.  It turns out that my pace was 13:13.  So there we go.  Once again here are the details (or as Kenzi on "Lost Girl" would say the Detz):  I went for 2.271 miles with 1.638 of that @ 5 MPH and .6333 @ 3.8 MPH for a total pace of 13:13.

Tomorrow's another day and I've got new goals; training is back in session!

Happy Running!
